What is the ruling of one, who intentionally breaks the fast in Ramadan, does he expiate for each day or once for all?

Answers

Ibrahim Saleh Al-Husseini: If he breaks it in different times, he will be obliged to different atonements. And if he breaks the fast in succession, then he must offer expiation for all the days that he breaks. The atonement is for violating its sanctity, not for breaking the fast. The atonement is for violating the sanctity of Ramadan and the sanctity of the month. So, if he violates the sanctity once, twice or three, he must offer expiations as per the number of violations, and if the violation is within one period, he must do that as well.
