Al-Azhar's efforts in Africa contribute strongly to confronting terrorist organizations; The Mufti of Nigeria

Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Grand Sheikh of Al-Azhar, received Sheikh Ibrahim Saleh Al-Husseini, Grand Mufti of Nigeria, at the Sheikh headquarters.

During the meeting, the Sheikh of Al-Azhar said that the West African region has a long history of serving Islam and preserving the Islamic heritage, and its scholars made important contributions to the Islamic civilization, adding that the Islamic moderate approach had a great role in the social and cultural advancement of this region throughout history.

The Sheikh of Al-Azhar explained that Al-Azhar is making great efforts to confront extremism and terrorism, and to confront the deviant ideas that come from outside to African societies, stressing that Al-Azhar relies on its African graduates to spread moderation in their societies.

 From his part, Sheikh Ibrahim Al-Husseini affirmed Nigeria's pride and adherence to the noble approach of Al-Azhar, indicating that this approach has preserved coexistence and societal cohesion in Nigeria and all African countries known for their diversity and cultural richness.

The Mufti of Nigeria expressed his country's great appreciation for Al-Azhar's support in various scientific and advocacy fields, noting that Al-Azhar's numerous efforts in Africa strongly contribute to the war against groups of violence and terrorism, and support the strengthening of stability and societal security for the peoples of the continent.

At the end of the meeting, the Grand Mufti of Nigeria handed the Grand Sheikh of Al-Azhar a Qur’an copy of the Nigerian Dar Al Iftaa, which is scheduled to be launched in a ceremony specially held for this occasion, at the end of next April, expressing his hope for the participation of the Al-Azhar delegates in the function.
